The long silence of LWC.

In short: my life is a living hell (well, except for the middle class lifestyle, loving parents, amazingly understanding flatmate, relative good health and that fact that I got to see Gomez in concert last weekend. But you know us whiny entitled liberals!)

I hope everyone is doing fine out there, especially Dave and crew at Galloping Beaver. Someday, LWC will return, wonkier and more pedantic than ever.

Fun with Frum.

Heh. Here's David Frum's diary entry from October 26:

Let me see if I understand the rules of American politics in 2006:

It's in bounds to write a deliberately deceptive voter initiative to try to inscribe embryo-killing research into a state's law.

It's in bounds for a likeable and suffering celebrity to suggest that such research is poised to deliver a cure that will help him - despite the utter absence of evidence for any such claim.

...But it's out of bounds for a conservative radio broadcaster to question the honesty of the initiative or the truth of the claims made on its behalf.


He's talking about Rush of course, suggesting on his radio show that Michael J. Fox has either been faking Parkinsons symptoms or else deliberately forgoing his medication to score points for Democrats. And apparently, such sentiments are less "out of bounds" than Frum seems to think.

But anyway, here's Frum reiterating yesterday:

In all the controversy that has raged over embryonic stem-cell research, there's one point that seems seldom stressed: There is as yet little reason to believe that stem cells from embryos will in fact cure anything. The curative powers of embryonic stem cells remain a hope (or as Michael J. Fox put it in his carefully written advertisement, a "chance for hope"), not a fact.


So in fact the Fox ad was "carefully written" so as not to make false claims, and offered a sentiment that Frum completely agrees with! Glad we cleared that up.
