Roger L Simon is a laff riot.
Instapundit occasionally passes as just a decent right-leaning blog aggregator. But a visit to Roger L. Simon never disappoints. Today's nugget (emphasis mine):
I have heard the journalist Claudia Rosett referred to us an enemy of the United Nations. I have also read the same of me (to, justifiably, a considerably more minor extent). Neither of us, however, is an enemy of the UN. Indeed, in a certain way people like us could be looked upon as the instution's greatest hopes because at least we still care. We hold alive the dream of the United Nations at it was once was conceived, not the pitiful corruption center that now exists.
Personally, I think Roger is always at his most hilarious when he puts his giant ego through its "more in sorrow than in anger" paces.
Update: In her latest article, to which Roger links, Claudia Rosett lays out just how much she still "cares" and "dreams of the United Nations as it was once conceived" (emphasis mine):
The United Nations was founded as a forum of governments. As we had ample occasion to learn over the decades, this arrangement presented quite enough problems of its own. Now the UN, in contravention of its own charter, is rapidly evolving into something larger, more corporate, and more menacing: a predatory, undemocratic, unaccountable, and self-serving vehicle for global government. Like the Soviet Union of old, the UN is unwieldy, gross, inefficient, and incompetent; it is also so configured as to reach deep into the national politics of its member states and, by sheer weight and persistence, to force at least some of the worst of its agenda upon all of us.
...All the more reason, then, to force ourselves at long last to take a hard, undeceived look at what the institution has in fact become, put aside the lengthy and futile quest for its reform, and begin to think more concretely about how, with or without it, we can best work to advance the interests and values of ourselves and other members of the civilized world.

Frankly, it amuses me to hear Americans kvetch about the UN. WE created the darn thing during WW2 as basically an anti-Nazi league, and for most of its history it has largely followed the lead and done the bidding of the US administration. For the right to complain about them is doubly rich, because they control our government at this time. They score 'points' with the dim-witted by railing against the government (composed entirely of themselves) and against the UN, when they have the power to leave it, withdraw funding, and toss it from our shores. Of course, they know full well the UN is usually an American tool. It is just fascinating how this rhetoric can work without cognitive dissonance causing cerebral hemmoraging nationwide.
