New poll: Dog bites man.
The Globe and Mail reports some shocking results from its new poll, complete with the standard platitudes from the ubiquitous Mr. Gregg (whom I have a soft spot for only because he did write the definitely reasonable column on the Sponsorship brouhaha a while back):
Nearly two-thirds of the respondents to a poll conducted by the Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV said their priorities are similar or identical to those spelled out by the Conservatives — accountability, child care, reduced waiting times for health care, safe streets and a cut to the GST.
In all regions of the country, about 9 per cent of respondents said Mr. Harper's priorities were identical to their own, and 54 to 58 per cent said they were similar.
“When you poke further and say, ‘Do you have any other priorities?' a solid majority say yes,” Mr. Gregg said.
Good God. Accountability. Child care. Better health care. Safe streets. A tax cut. Ponies. An Easter egg hunt. Candy canes and Christmas carols. Who the hell is going to take exception to any of this stuff? So long as the Tories get to couch their ideas in these sort of meaningless, feel-good soundbites, we're never going to learn anything (like, for instance, the nuts and bolts of "accountability".) The only news here is that support for the Tories and Liberals is basically unchanged in two months. Only the NDP seems to be sliding a bit.
