Throwaway opinion to start the day...

This is just not offensive. In no rational universe is this offensive.

Ted Rall's "Pat Tillman is an idiot" cartoon was offensive. This one is a perfectly fair, perfectly mainstream political statement. The US Army (and DoD) does itself no favours getting into a lather over things like this. Don't they have real things to worry about? I think they do.

It's offensive if you're Donald Rumsfeld. Of course, that also means you're not in a rational universe.

Note that the Joint Chiefs, in an attempt to appear outraged, created a strawman for an argument.

That, or they are collectively the stupidest six people on the planet.

Oh, no one was actually offended; the nutjobs have just perfected the tactic of changing the subject from one they lose (in this case, the overstreched Army) to one they can manipulate (how DARE you mock our injured troops, harrumph, harrumph). This is a daily occurance on Faux News. The fact that the Joint Chiefs are now involved is actually the most worrisome aspect. It indicated that they are more politicized than even I had realized. Political officers didn't work so well for the USSR, and I'm pretty sure they won't do wonders for us, either.

Actually, Nightshift, that's a good point. General and Flag officers ARE politicized since Rummie took over. Where as before Bush, it was the military hierarchy which forwarded names for promotions and appointments, then the Senate confirmed them, now Rumsfeld interviews them personally, interfering with the military selection process.
