Bizarre. The Pajamas Media meta-blog has started a new blog called WMDFiles... about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.
So far, there are only two posts up, both of them about this giant pile of nothing recently reported by ABC and a bunch of tiny rightwing outlets like CNS news.
Ok, ok. I'm showing my liberal bias. It's not nothing. Actually, the 12 hours of previously unreleased recordings of Hussein meeting with his cabinet sometime in the mid-90s includes audiotape of Saddam and Tariq Aziz discussing how they won't commit terrorist acts using WMDs on American or British soil (though Saddam worries that somebody unaffiliated with a state might do so as developing small-scale dirty bombs is easy), and how bummed they are that the U.N. inspectors have discovered things -- again, this is the mid-90s -- they didn't want known about their biological weapons program. Meanwhile, the relevance of the information contained on the tapes to the case for war with Iraq has already been poo-pooed by John Negroponte's -- yes that's right, John Negroponte's -- spokeswoman.
Is this really the sort of thing to which Pajamaline wants to be devoting a whole new blog? I mean, there's circle-jerking and then there's circle-jerking.

Given that these bloggers are dedicated to the defense of GWB and the decision to invade Iraq, their behavior is utterly predictable. The sad thing is that they will have their desired effect of creating enough wind so that in six months, all most people will know is that "Hey, old Hussein was talking about WMD attacks in the USA. Good thing we got him." It has worked for them far too often in the last decade or so for them not to use the trick now.
