A Dem who makes Kathleen Blanco look good.

Oh Good God. Via Political Wire, here's the news out of Louisiana:

Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom said Tuesday that he has lost confidence in Gov. Kathleen Blanco's ability to lead and is trying to convince retired U.S. Sen. John Breaux to run for her seat in 2007.

Obviously, it's hardly a matter of prime importance to me who becomes the next governor of the state of Louisiana. But John Breaux is really one of those characters you wish, as a Democratically-minded foreign national, would just amble into history. Nevertheless, this possible revival does make a depressing amount of sense. Katrina and its aftermath made obvious the need for efficient, responsive, functional government. That could mean a new onus on professionalism, perhaps buttressed by public service benchmarks. Or it could mean more geniality and "working across the aisle to get things done". I'll bet John Breaux and his supporters will be banking on it being the latter.
